Rajinikanth’s Coolie Movie Storms Theaters with Record Pre-Sales and Global Release

By Soch Se News Entertainment Desk

The much-awaited Coolie movie hit theaters worldwide on August 14, 2025, just a day before India’s Independence Day, setting the stage for one of the biggest cinematic clashes of the year alongside War 2. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the Tamil-language action drama also released in Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, captivating audiences across multiple regions.

A Historic Release with Unique Censor Records

In India, Coolie received an “A” certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), making it the first adult-rated Rajinikanth film since Siva (1989) and director Lokesh’s first as well. The uncut version ran for 169.57 minutes, later extended to 170.22 minutes after adding a 25-second tribute to Rajinikanth’s 50 years in cinema.

Internationally, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) required 1 minute and 52 seconds of cuts for the UK release to secure a “15” rating.

Interestingly, the Hindi dubbed version was initially titled Majadoor, but after strong fan backlash, it was renamed Coolie: The Powerhouse.

Canceled IMAX & Special Formats

Initially planned for an IMAX release, Coolie faced an unexpected setback due to War 2 securing an exclusive deal with the IMAX Corporation. Similar exclusivity agreements also blocked its D-Box and 4DX releases, limiting premium format options for fans.

Star-Studded Cast and Special Appearances
